The edge of Palma is an unlikely starting point for a wooded climb, but Coll de sa Creu makes the transition quickly. From near the Ma-20, the Ma-1043 heads into the hills west of the city, exchanging urban streets for a winding road beneath the trees. The Palma approach covers roughly 5.8 kilometres at an average of 5.3%, enough for a sustained effort without turning the ride into a major mountain outing.
Much of its appeal lies in the enclosed woodland and the succession of bends. Occasional gaps offer a view, though the forest remains the defining scenery. The gradient gives the ascent a measured character, while the turns stop it feeling like a straight exercise in gaining height. Beyond the pass, the road continues towards the Calvià side. A useful escape from the city, with its own modest pleasures.
